What is Graston Technique? The Graston Technique® is an advanced form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that prevents acute conditions from becoming chronic and reversing the outcome on conditions once thought to be permanent. It is used to detect and treat soft tissue dysfunction -- release scar tissue, adhesions, and fascial restrictions. The result is decreased pain and increased function.

When connective tissue, such as muscle, ligaments, or tendons become restricted or scarred, it can result in pain, tenderness, loss of flexibility and motion. It is not uncommon to find a restriction in one part of the body that produces pain and dysfunction in another area, commonly known as the kinetic chain.

What is a treatment like? Graston uses stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis and chronic inflammation. The instruments are designed to adapt to the various tissues/shapes/curves of the body. Mild to moderate bruising may take place during the process of breaking down old scar tissue.

Treatment with the Technique is conducted in concert with a rehabilitation regimen designed to restore patients to their pre-injury level of activity. This is accomplished by implementing a functional progression program which zeros in on imbalances throughout the kinetic chain.

Individuals who are experiencing pain or loss of motion and function following surgery, injury, cumulative trauma disorders and tendonosis.

Some clinical diagnoses which have responded well to the Graston Technique include: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Cervical Myofascial Pain, Trigger finger, IT Band Syndrome, Adhesive Capsulitis, Low Back Pain, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, Patellar Tendonitis, Ankle Sprain, Hamstring Strain, Epicondylosis, Rotator Cuff Syndrome, Achilles Tendonitis, Plantar Fasciitis.
